Story of the Week - Snail Trail by Jo Saxton

As we have snail eggs growing in our bug hotel we are going to spend some time thinking about snails.

We begin with Snail Trail by Jo Saxton.  In this story a snail takes a journey to look for a piece of artwork that looks like him.   The snail finds lots of different pieces of art on the way before finding 'The Snail' by Matisse.

Our words of the week will be:

famous, artist, portrait, blocks, strange

Rhyme of the Week - Snail Snail

Snail snail, snail snail

Round and round and round he goes.

In maths this week we are going to be beginning to focus upon counting objects

We will be showing a line of objects, touching them one at a time, counting and naming them.

For example - we might have a line of cars and touch them one at a time and count them by saying 1 car, 2 cars, 3 cars, 4 cars, 5 cars.

We are going to continue with recognition of numbers 1-5 and introduce the number 6.

Invitations to play this week will include  creating their own snail artwork and using brushes in a glitter tray to create a snail trail.

We will continue to observe our snail eggs in the bug hotel and talk about looking after living things - keep an eye on the main Nursery page for any updates!

We really hope that they will hatch this term!
