Story of the Week

Max the Brave by Ed Vere

This week our story is Max the Brave.  At the end of the week each child will be given a copy of the book to keep.  ('s a surprise for the children.)

This is given to children aged 3-4 by Booktrust - the largest children's reading charity.

There are lots of tips and ideas on their website .

Find them here -

Sign and sing-a-long with Mr Tumble to Little Bo Peep.

In maths this week we are going to be continuing to think about 1:1 correspondence.

We will be showing a line of objects, touching them one at a time and naming them.

We are making this trickier this week as each object will have a different name - for example instead of saying car, car, car, car, car - children will have to say a different name for each object e.g. sun, moon, car, bus, spoon.  This will help the children to develop the skills needed to transfer new words to each object.  In time this will lead to the children becoming confident when counting objects.

Invitations to play next week include challenges to paint a monster, to retell the story of Max the Brave using the props in the story telling tray and to use superhero moves outside!

The words we will be focusing on which have been taken from Max the Brave.  This week the words are:

  • Sweet

  • Fearless

  • Brave

  • Scurry

  • Dash

  • Skitter
