5 Holly

Welcome to 5 Holly!

Here is some important information about our class.

PE days

Our PE days for the first half of the Autumn Term are Tuesday and Thursday. However, it is a really good idea to have your PE kit in school every day just in case things change. Long hair needs to be tied back and you must be able to remove earrings by yourself, as adults are not allowed to help you.

Homework activities can be chosen from our homework menu. The return dates (Tuesdays) are listed on the homework menu. You may complete more than one activity some weeks (for example if you know that you are going to be busy the following week), but only one activity will be marked each week.

Children should read to an adult at home at least three times every week and ask them to sign their reading records each time to confirm this. If you read at home three times during the week, you will earn one dojo. However, if you read more than three times, you will get two dojos as a reward. Reading records should be returned for checking every Wednesday.

Times tables

It is essential for all children in Year 5 to have instant recall of all times table facts up to 12 x 12 and their associated division facts. Children have been given a log in for the PiXL times table app to help them practise. For those who do not have access to the internet, please help your child to learn their tables or speed up their recall by asking questions, for example when you are travelling in the car.

Children in Year 5 are given 18 spellings each week. They must learn the Core 6 spellings to earn their dojo, but will earn extra dojos if they learn the other spellings, up to a maximum of 3 dojos per week. Spellings are currently tested each Friday and the test date is always written on the spelling slip that is sent home in the children's homework book.
