After a challenging few months, it's lovely to see everyone back again and the children have really hit the ground running which has been great to see.
It has been great to see the children engaged in Book Club again since the restart. As you are aware, children will be set reading homework daily and are expected to do this in readiness for the session the following day. Some possible tasks your child might be asked to do will be: to read a number of pages, make notes about key events, create questions based on the text they have read or to jot down unknown words to discuss during the next session. It is imperative they complete this homework each night and with your support, i'm sure we will achieve this together.
Spellings will be given out every Thursday and then tested the following Friday. These will be taught throughout the week and reinforced during Book Club activities the children complete whilst they are not working with an adult. Children will also be able to use Z-type to support their learning, this allows the children to be challenged to type them at an ever increasing speed the more they spell correctly.
Our PE day is a Thursday. On this day, children should wear their PE kits to school to avoid having to get changed throughout the day. All our PE sessions will be outside and as we are moving into Autumn, please send your child to school dressed according to the weather. Joggers, school PE t-shirt and a jacket/hoodie will be sufficient.
This term our topics will be the Vikings and Forces. We've already made a start on the aforementioned topic, identifying where the Vikings originated from and piecing together the key dates of their occupation of England. I'm sure the children will be looking forward to finding out more about these fearsome invaders but they may be shocked to find out why the Vikings chose to settle here in the first place.
