Class Information

Dojo Points

Dojo points will continue from year 1. Just as a reminder Dojo's are virtual points that are awarded to children for various good behaviours. The children each have their own Dojo monster which they can personalise.

Once the children receive 250 points they will be awarded a certificate during the weekly Celebration Assembly. Please sign up to the Dojo app if you have not already done so and request a password from school.

I regularly update it with information and photos. Please feel free to like and comment on the posts.

PE

We have two PE sessions each week and these will be on a Wednesday (indoor) and Friday (outdoor) afternoon. Please ensure that your child has their PE kit (shorts, T-Shirt and trainers) with them on these days.  Although it would be advisable for children to bring in full PE kit on Mondays and take home to wash and refresh on Fridays.

If your child wears earrings please can you ensure that these are removed (preferable) or covered before they come to school on PE days.

Reading

Your child's reading experience is much more than the reading book which comes home from school. Reading is happening all the time in a classroom and in the school. It is taught in phonics and English lessons, but children are practising and using their 'reading' constantly across all subjects too.

Parents can support this 'reading journey' through regular reading at home. Reading to and with your child every evening for at least ten minutes can make a dramatic difference to a child's achievement within school.

A report from the Oxford University Press highlighted the importance of parents reading with their children.

'Children who read outside of class are 13 times more likely to read above the expected level for their age'.

The report also offers six tips for reading with your child at home, including:

1. Make time to read- even ten minutes a day

2. Choose different types of books

3. Take turns to read

4. Talk about the book- asking your child questions

5. Pay attention to the language

6. Enjoy reading

We ask that you read or share a book with your child at least three times a week. Please complete your child's reading record. If they read three times or more at home they will receive three dojo points.

Homework

We will issue 12 weekly spellings linked to the current phonics/spelling patterns being taught. Children will be expected to learn and practice these spellings in preparation for a weekly spelling test. Additional homework will be issued and sent home during the Summer Term, in preparation for Year 3.
