Welcome to 5 oak

It's great to be welcoming you back to school and into year 5. During the year we'll be learning about Vikings, Forces, Early Islamic Civilisations, Space, Rivers & Mountains, Materials and much more!

We'll occasionally be posting summaries on our web page, but for day-to-day pictures and updates it's best to ensure you are signed up to Class Dojo (if you need help with this, please get in touch via the main office).

This term, we are not sending out weekly homework, but ask that children focus on practising their times tables (up to 12x12), learning their spellings and completing their reading for book club.

A list of spellings are sent out each Thursday and are tested on the following Friday. Children can practise these on paper, verbally or using one of the online resources available:

Ztype is a fun website which combines typing skills and spelling. A different link will be sent home with the spellings each week.

Spelling Shed is an excellent website that each child has an account that they can log in with.

Reading (Book Club)

Children are given a book that they will read with an adult led group every day. They will then be asked to read a number of pages at home that night and sometimes given a short task to complete. They must bring the book to school every day.

Children are also welcome to borrow books from our classroom bookcase, these will be quarantined for 72 hours when brought back to school before being returned to the shelf.

We strongly encourage pupils to practise their times tables and other basic maths skills at home as much as possible. Each child has a Times Tables Rockstars account and some children also access Numbots using the same login details.

Our PE day is Monday. Please note, earrings must be removed before PE. Adults are not allowed to help remove these.
