Spring Term Phonics

We love nursery rhymes in Nursery.

Mem Fox said, 'experts  in literacy and child development have discovered that if children know 8 nursery rhymes by heart by the time they are 4 years old, they are usually among the best readers by the time they are 8!'

We sing them every day and the children love taking out the nursery rhyme bag during their play and sitting and singing their favourite rhymes!

We are also having a focus this term on introducing instruments into phonics.  We are listening to the sounds that different percussion instruments make and trying to match them to the correct instrument.

We are introducing the fact that letter shapes also have sounds attached to them.  The children are really keen to know the sounds and we are intending to introduce the s-a-t-p-i-n sounds.

And finally we are thinking about blending and segmenting simple familiar words.
