Staff Illness

Staff Illness

Most of the time, in the case of a teacher's absence, a class will be covered by current school staff.  If it becomes longer term, we may use supply teachers.  We always ensure all staff meet the required checks for safeguarding.

My child's teacher isn't in the classroom every day. Why is that?

All teachers are legally entitled to PPA time - this stands for 'Planning, Preparation and Assessment' and means they are given 1/2 a day a week to assess children's learning, plan and prepare lessons.

Sometimes our teachers are out of class to carry out their wider leadership roles in school.  We do this to monitor and support others in school and to develop initiatives and improvements.

Our staff take part in professional development / courses and meetings that are during the day time.  It is important that our staff keep up to date with current developments - we want your children to be taught by the best using the best methods.

During their absence, your child's class will be taught by a cover teacher in school, teaching lessons planned by their class teacher.  The cover teachers always report back to your child's regular teacher.
