  • Reading for Pleasure Conference

Mon 30 Oct 2023 Anna Cvijetic

On our training day today, all the staff (teachers and teaching assistants) attended our Reading for Pleasure (RfP) conference at school.  We listened to live online Key Note sessions from leaders in this area at the Open University, and then Mrs Marsh (our RfP leader) led some workshops too.  The feedback from staff has been very positive and we have already seen lots of the ideas being implemented in classrooms and shared with children.

We have 5 training days a year as part of our contracts (children do 190 days in school and teachers do 195 days).  It is really important that we keep ourselves up to date with current best practice and have time to put improvements into our school pedagogy.  RfP is a priority on our school development plan (SDP) this year (all SDP priorities are on the school website).

  • Year 5 Harvest Festival

Fri 20 Oct 2023 Mrs Harling

To celebrate the importance of Harvest, our Year 5 children have enjoyed performing a special assembly today - for our parents and family members, the Juniors and the Infants. We investigated different Harvest traditions from around the world, focusing on the USA, China and Poland in particular. We also looked at traditions in our own country and the important work of the Trussell Trust for our local community. Thank you for your kind donations of food; these have been donated to the local foodbank  to help those in need in our local area. Well done Year 5!

  • D&T trip to UTC

Fri 20 Oct 2023 Iryna Fowles

Some of our year 3 and 4 children had the most exciting morning today: we went to UTC to complete 4 different D&T projects and learn about net zero and wind turbines. We built a wind turbine, designed a bird feeder platform, used coding, built circuits, played on VR, checked 3D printers and laser machines and most importantly we had biscuits and juice as well as went on a REAL bus! We EVEN got presents and won prizes!

Thank you Jen from UTC and all the students who were amazing at teaching our children! Hope we can come again!

  • Harvest

    Thu 05 Oct 2023

During the last week before October Half Term, children will be celebrating Harvest in school and giving thanks for what we have.

Like previous years, we will be collecting non-perishable foods (tins, packets, pasta, rice etc.) for the Scunthorpe Food Bank, who support families in our area. Your donations will be gratefully received.

Please kindly send any donations to the school with your child between now and Friday 20th October.

    Thank you for your support.

    Year 5 Parents

Year 5 parents are invited to the Harvest Festival performed by Year 5 children on Friday 20th October at 9.00am in the Junior Hall.

  • Individual School Photographs

    Thu 05 Oct 2023

The school photographer will be visiting school on Tuesday 10th October 2023 to take an individual school photograph of your child. Like previous times, once we receive the proofs, we will send these home for you to purchase if you wish.

School Uniform will need to be worn by all children on this day. If this is normally your child’s PE day, please do not send them in their PE Kit. Children will still participate in a PE activity, but one which can be completed in their school uniform.

  • Parents Evening Autumn Term 2023

    Mon 02 Oct 2023

    Dear Parents and Carers,

Parent and Teacher Consultations have been organised for Nursery, Reception and Year 1 to Year 6 on Monday 16th and Wednesday 18th October (3.30 – 6.30pm), apart from a few changes to Nursery:

    • Nursery will be on Wednesday 18th October only (1.30-6.30pm). Each appointment will be a 10-minute slot. The booking system will send you two email invites so you can choose to book either an early afternoon (1.30-3.00pm) or late afternoon appointment (3.30-6.30pm). Please note, the booking system will show 5-minute slots for the 3.30-6.30pm appointments due to both Mrs Bennett and Mrs Waters leading these appointments.

We will be using the online booking system again for booking appointments. You will shortly receive an email inviting you to book an appointment with your child’s class teacher. Once you have received the email, please select the date and time you wish to book for. Only available time slots will be displayed. Once you have selected your time and confirmed your booking, you will receive an on-screen reminder of the booking followed by an email confirmation.

Please note, the system will only send an email to the person who is listed on our records as contact number one. Parents who have more than one child at our school, will receive a separate email for each child. If you have not received an email by Wednesday 4th October, please contact the school office by phone (01724 867065) or email (admin.berkeleyprimary@northlincs.gov.uk) to ensure we have your current email address. The online booking system will close on Friday 13th October at 6.00pm.

Parent’s Evening is an opportunity for you to have a look at your child’s work and speak to your child’s class teacher about progress and targets.  I will also be available during the evening if you would like to speak to me.  We expect 100% attendance and need to see all parents.  There will be no after school clubs on Monday 16th and Wednesday 18th October.

Meetings will be held in classrooms, there will be a waiting area in each school hall and you will be able to look at your child’s work.  Please could all visitors use the main entrance for the infants and juniors and come to the appropriate building for each appointment. Nursery and Reception meetings will be held in the infant building.

We look forward to seeing you here at the school, having an opportunity to share some of the lovely work the children have been doing and discuss their progress and attitude to learning.
