Tote Bags - with artwork by Romero Britto

As part of the DT topic, we needed to learn how to apply running stitch, backstitch and overstitch to a design. To help link with our topic on 'South America', we decided to create a day bag (Tote bag) that could be used upon reaching Machu Picchu in the Andes mountains.

The children really enjoyed this topic and although some of them found some of the stitches a little tricky at first and once we overcame the unthreaded needle epidemic, the finished designs looked very good.

To make more cross curricular links, we then added a Romero Britto (Brazilian artist/sculptur and focus artist for the term) style design to the bags to add a splash of colour. I think you'll agree that they look fantastic.
