Our Class Trips

Up The Iron

As part of our topic this term, we have been on a trip to Scunthorpe Museum and Steel Works. During the visit we have learnt about our locality and how Scunthorpe has grown from 5 small farming villages into the thriving steel town it is today. While at the Museum we also looked at how we learn about the past, looking at different source of information and how archeologists dig up artifacts to learn about our history. At the Steel Works, we learnt about how Ronald Winn developed the 4 Iron Works in Scunthorpe to become the Steel Works that we know today and how he built houses for his workers around Roland Road area of Scunthorpe and built the train line from Scunthorpe to Cleethorpes so that the steel workers were able to go on holidays. The children have become experts in their knowledge of their locality.
