Dojo Points

Dojo points are virtual points that are awarded to children for various good behaviours. The children each have their own Dojo monster which they can personalise.

Once the children receive 250 points they will be awarded a certificate in a special class assembly.

Please sign up to the Dojo app using the password that will be sent home in the first week of autumn term. If you have any problems signing up, please come and see me.

I regularly update it with information and photos. Please feel free to like and comment on the posts.

PE

We have an outdoor PE session each Monday afternoon and an indoor session on  Wednesday afternoons.

Please ensure that you child is wearing their PE kit (t-shirt, shorts, leggings, tracksuit bottoms, trainers etc)

If your child wears earrings, please can you ensure that these are removed  before they come to school.

Reading

Your child's reading experience is much more than the reading book which comes home from school. Reading is happening all the time in a classroom and in the school. It is taught in phonics and English lessons, but children are practising and using their 'reading' constantly across all subjects too.

Parents can support this 'reading journey' through regular reading at home. Reading to and with your child every evening for at least ten minutes can make a dramatic difference to a child's achievement within school.

A report from the Oxford University Press highlighted the importance of parents reading with their children.

'Children who read outside of class are 13 times more likely to read above the expected level for their age'.

The report also offers six tips for reading with your child at home, including:

1. Make time to read- even ten minutes a day

2. Choose different types of books

3. Take turns to read

4. Talk about the book- asking your child questions

5. Pay attention to the language

6. Enjoy reading

We ask that you read or share a book with your child at least three times a week. Please complete your child's reading record. If they read three times or more at home they will receive three Dojo points. I will check reading records and award points each Monday. Books will also be changed each Monday.

Your children will bring home 3 books per week. 2 of these books will be Bug Club reading books and your children will be able to fully decode these. One will focus on newly learnt sounds  and the other will consolidate previously learnt sounds.

The third book will be from the library and the children will chose this themselves. They may need a little help to read these.

Bug Club

Bug Club is an excellent online book club where your child can access books suitable for their ability. They can also access games to consolidate their phonics knowledge.

Passwords have already been sent home. If you have any questions or problems logging on then please come and see me.
