Y5 Wind Turbine Project Summer 2023

Exciting new Wind Turbine Project 2023

This summer, our Year 5 children have worked alongside Mike Cargill at UKSTEM on a ground-breaking project. The project encompassed both a STEM and arts dimension and offered valuable CPD for our school staff involved (please see the attached flyer below).

All the children in Year 5 thoroughly enjoyed participating in this new experience and creating their wind turbines. The children who completed the final model turbine, were delighted that theirs was the winning design of all the entries in the project. Their work was celebrated at the Humber offshore Wind Energy Project at the 20-21 Arts Centre.

After the display at the 2021 Visual Arts Centre, the wind turbines were then displayed in Scunthorpe Library for a couple of weeks. Following this, they were then taken to Aura, the University of Hull renewable energy centre at Bridgehead Business Park for 10 days. The University of Hull library has also asked for them to be displayed as part of the Humber Science Festival in early September https://scifest.hull.ac.uk/ The Deep have also asked if our wind turbines can be displayed there for 2 weeks over the October half term – as part of their offshore wind fortnight.

The children that took part in the project have all achieved either a Bronze or Elementary level Global STEM Award and will each receive a certificate https://globalstemaward.org/about/
