Oracy is 'learning to talk' and 'learning through talk'.
Oracy is a powerful tool for learning; by teaching students to become more effective speakers and listeners we empower them to better understand themselves, each other and the world around them. It is also a route to social mobility, empowering all students, not just some, to find their voice to succeed in school and life.
We have worked with 'Voice 21' (The UK's oracy education charity) to enhance our children's oracy skills by introducing a framework for talk. The work that we have undertaken this year has included whole-class and group discussion, presentation skills, using sentence stems, concept cartoons, etc. Here are some of the outcomes:
11.5.23 Poetry recital...
As part of our continued English and Oracy work, we have learnt a poem called, ‘The Sound Collector.’ We worked in pairs to learn the lines. Then, we worked on our presenting skills - adding expression, actions and sound effects to our recital. We hope you enjoy our performance.
24.2.2023
Yesterday, we wrote poems including extended noun phrases. Today, we practised our oracy skills by presenting the poems to our class.
