What a great start the children have had to Year 2! They have all been really settled and keen to learn and have taken on the new routines really well.

This term, our first topic is Trains where we will be investigating how train have improved the lives of people locally and nationally. We will be learning about George Stephenson and how trains have developed and improved over time. We will also visit York Railway Museum for our trip later on in the term. 

Our PE days are Monday (indoor) and Wednesday (outdoor). Please ensure your child wears appropriate PE kit (black/grey/blue joggers or shorts with a white t-shirt and trainers).  They can wear their school jumper or cardigan for colder days. Earrings must be removed or sports earrings worn for safety. 

Some children will be bringing home a Book Club reading book and journal. These children will read every day in school and discuss the book and the vocabulary they have come across. They will then be set some pages to read at home each night. Please read with them to check their understanding and fluency. The journals need to be kept neat and tidy please. 

Other children will be continuing with phonics and will be bringing Bug Club reading books home linked to the sounds they have been learning in their groups. Please listen to them read these books at home and probe their understanding with questions.
