Ogden Trust 2024

* PHYSICS CHRISTMAS COMPETITION *

Dear Parents and Carers,

I hope this letter finds you and your families well as we approach the festive season. I am delighted to announce an exciting Christmas competition that I believe your children will thoroughly enjoy.

This year, we are challenging our creative children to design a sleigh for Father Christmas that can float on water in water-bound countries. The winning design will not only bring joy to those less fortunate but will also earn the designer/s a very good prize.

To enter, children should create a detailed plan and model of their sleigh design, highlighting how it would function in a water-based environment. All entries should be submitted to Mrs Burnett by the deadline of Friday 6th December.

I am confident that our children's innovative minds will produce some truly remarkable designs, and I look forward to seeing their submissions. This is a wonderful opportunity for them to explore the principles of physics and design, while also embracing the spirit of Christmas.

Please encourage your child to participate in this competition. I have no doubt that their creativity and problem-solving skills will shine through.

If you have any questions or require further information, please do not hesitate to contact the school office.

Wishing you all a wonderful lead-up to the Christmas season.

Yours sincerely,

Mrs Burnett

* BRITISH SCIENCE WEEK COMPETITION *

Dear Parents and Carers,

I hope this letter finds you and your families well.

I am delighted to announce an exciting British Science Week competition. This year, I am challenging our children to create a poster with this year’s theme of ‘change and adapt’.

Pupils could create a poster looking at:

* how plants and animals adapt to changing seasons or surroundings,

* how humans have adapted to changing technology

* climate change and how we can adapt our behaviours to protect the environment,

* their favourite experiment and how it shows change.

The more creative the interpretation of the theme, the better!

Here is what I’ll be looking for:

Creativity in approach: don’t be afraid to think outside of the box.

Content: clear, accurate and informative about a ‘change and adapt’ theme.

Effective communication – presented in an engaging way.

All poster entries should be submitted to Mrs Burnett by the deadline of Wednesday 26th March. The winning design/s will earn the designer/s a very good prize.

I am confident that children will produce some excellent, creative posters and I look forward to seeing their submissions. This is a wonderful opportunity for them to explore the concept of ‘change and adapt’.

Please encourage your child to participate in this competition. I have no doubt that their creativity will shine through.

If you have any questions or require further information, please do not hesitate to contact the school office.

Wishing you all a wonderful lead-up to Easter.

Yours faithfully,

Mrs Burnett

* SUMMER SCIENCE COMPETITION *

Dear Parents,
We are thrilled to announce an exciting opportunity for our children to engage with the thrilling world of STEM through a special physics competition for the summer term!

Your child is invited to design a rocket on a poster, capable of safely landing on the fascinating surface of Mars. This is not only a chance for them to explore the principles of physics but also to unleash their creativity and innovation.

We encourage children to include detailed sketches and descriptions of their rocket designs, highlighting the scientific concepts they have considered. If your child wishes to create a model rocket, they are allowed to do this. However, this is optional as a poster entry is more than sufficient.

All designs and any accompanying models should be submitted to Mrs Burnett by Monday 19th May. We are looking forward to seeing the imaginative solutions our students will devise for this interplanetary challenge.

The excitement doesn’t end there! The winning design will be rewarded with a fantastic space science kit. We hope this competition sparks curiosity and passion for the wonders of science in your child.

Happy designing!

Kind regards,
Mrs Burnett
