Year 5 Workers' Memorial 28th April 2025

Today, our Year Fives were invited to participate at the annual Workers' Memorial service at the Connect Church on Ashby Road. The Year Five children put on an absolutely brilliant presentation this morning and all three teachers were incredibly proud of them. Every speaker knew exactly when it was their turn to talk and everyone could be clearly heard from the back of the hall. Members of the public described their performance as 'flawless' and 'polished'. Well done Year Five - you are using your Oracy skills very well indeed!

After School Clubs Summer Term 2025

We have been organising our extra curricular activities for this term. We are offering a variety of enrichment activities for the children, trying to cater for a range of interests and age groups. I am sure that you will join me in thanking our great team for giving up their own time to volunteer to run these clubs for our children. The list of clubs available this term are on the reverse of this letter.

If your child would like to join a club then please log on to your ParentPay account where the clubs available for this term will be listed for you to select. To make this process fair you MUST ONLY select ONE club for your child. If you select more than one your child will be cancelled from all clubs selected.

Booking opens from Monday 28^th April at 4.00pm where you will then be able to view and book your child onto a club. As there are limited places at each club, places will be allocated on a first come first served basis. If a club is full then the ParentPay system will not let you book onto a club. If you have yet to use ParentPay and need your login details, then please call in at the school office.

Clubs will start from Tuesday 6^th May and will run until Friday 27^th June. If your child is attending an ‘invitees only’ club then please refer to your letter for exact running dates for that club.

Gooch Judo will continue their sessions on Thursdays in the Junior Hall. There is a £3 charge for this per week.

There will also be a charge for some of the other clubs that require resources or clubs that support staff run, as we need to cover the cost of their extra working hours. Please see the reverse of the letter for the cost per term for each club. Payment for the full term must be made via ParentPay at the point of booking. Please note, once payment is made, this is non-refundable so should your child be absent from school or no longer wants to go to the club, we are unable to refund this back.

Once a child has signed up for a session, we do ask that children stay committed to their activity for a term and attend each week. If for any reason they are not able to attend, please can you ensure the school office is made aware.

As always, Infant children will need to be collected at the end of their after school activity. We recommend that Junior children are also picked up from their activity, but this is parental choice. Please indicate whether your Junior child will be collected or allowed to walk home on the ParentPay system when booking onto a club. Please ensure you are punctual when collecting your child at the end of the club. Should you be late on more than one occasion then your child will unfortunately not be able to attend the club.

VE Day Celebrations

VE Day Celebrations

Dear Reception to Year 6 Parents and Carers,

We will be celebrating the 80th Anniversary of VE Day (Victory in Europe) in school on Thursday 8th May. We will remember and honour the bravery and sacrifice of those who fought for our freedom. It’s a vital moment in history that shaped our nation. To celebrate, during the day we’ll engage in activities that teach our children about resilience, unity, and the importance of peace. We hope you can join us in remembering this significant day.

VE Day Themed Non-Uniform

We are inviting the children to take part in a VE Day themed non-uniform day. Ideas of costumes could be army wear, evacuee dress, dress from the 1940s, medics or wearing the colours red, white and blue. Please don’t feel the need to go out and buy an outfit for this – there are lots of ideas for creative costumes online that make use of what you may already have at home.

Picnic Lunch- Parent Invite

The school lunch on Thursday 8^th May will be a picnic style lunch and if good weather, all children will be sitting out on the field to eat it. If you would like your child to have the picnic lunch, then please select this the normal way via ParentPay. Please note, this will be the only school lunch option on this day so any junior children who do not want this, will need to bring their own packed lunch. Please note, all Reception, Year 1 and Year 2 children will be having the picnic lunch.

We are delighted to invite all parents to attend the picnic lunch too. Parents will have lunch with the children on the field (parents to bring own packed lunch and a blanket) and also listen to the children sing the VE Day song by the British Legion and join in with the National Anthem. Parents are invited from 12.00pm-12.45pm. If you would like to join in with the celebrations then please:

- Arrive at school promptly for 12.00 noon with your own packed lunch.

- Please wait in the carpark area outside the junior school office.

- Junior parents will be directed to the field via the gate near the junior school kitchen.

- Infant parents will go to the field via the gate near the bike shed in the car park.

- The gate between the two fields will be opened up so infants and juniors can mix together. If you have an infant child, please go onto the infant field and ask your junior child to come to you when they come up onto the field – staff will be around to help.

-Parents are encouraged to join in with the dressing up too.

- The gates will then be locked at 12.10pm. Please note, if you are late then you will not be able to gain entry. This is for security reasons. You will need to stay until 12:45 as the gates will not be opened until this time.

Unfortunately, if it is raining on this day then parents will not be able to attend and the children will eat their picnic lunch inside – we won’t have room for parents too. Fingers crossed for good weather!

A choice of sandwiches – Ham, Chicken Mayonnaise, Tuna or Cheese

Mini Quorn Sausage Roll and Crudités

Scone with Jam or Raspberry Jelly Pot

A drink will be provided
