  • Big Talk Education- Parent Presentation link included

    Wed 08 Mar 2023

To keep children as safe as possible Relationship Education is now statutory in all Primary Schools, we are engaging the support of the specialist organisation BigTalk Education, who are a Social Enterprise recognised by national lead bodies and Government.

They work with 3yr olds upwards and have been involved in delivering age-appropriate education of this type for over 20 years.

Below is some information on the Growing Up Safe programme that will be delivered to the Children.

    • Age 3 (Nursery). A fun learning environment where the children are taught: the differences between boys and girls, naming body parts, correct scientific words, private areas of the body, good touches and bad touches.
    • Ages 4 to 8 (Reception School Years 1, 2 & 3) Re-enforces and checks what was covered in Nursery.  Using specially designed child friendly resources at the end of this session they will be able to identify happy situations within relationships, and those which may be risky (e.g., other children or adults taking improper photographs of them, inappropriate touches, exposure to unsuitable media etc.) Plus, whom they can talk to if they are worried.
    • Ages 8 to 9 (School Year 4) We cover different kinds of families, similarities and differences between boys and girls, the emotional and physical changes of growing up (puberty) how babies are made, then develop in the womb etc. (reproduction). Also discussed is, how to look after our bodies and be safe and healthy.
    • Ages 9 to 11 (School Years 5 & 6) Reproduction and puberty are re-capped, the children are given the opportunity to ask questions. As well as additional clarification on puberty, they will often want more details on how babies develop and are born. It is important that they know there is someone in school as well as at home if they want help, advice or more information etc. (Information at this stage is vital to protect them as they move onto Secondary School and to provide an alternative to Google etc.

All the resources BigTalk Education use are age appropriate and help keep children protected from unwanted touches, abuse, and exposure to unsuitable images etc.

Further information on the above can be found on: www.bigtalkeducation.co.uk/parents

In addition, “Bodies, Babies and Bellybuttons” is the BigTalk book which accompanies the Growing Up Safe programme. This is a great resource for parents and can be ordered online from www.bigtalkeducation.co.uk on our Resources page.

  • World Book Day Thursday 2nd March

    Thu 09 Feb 2023

World Book Day takes place on Thursday 2nd March, and we would like to invite you to join us in helping your child to make the most of this special occasion. World Book Day celebrates the joy and value of books and reading.

For Reception to Y6, this will take place on Thursday 2nd March and we are inviting the children to come to school dressed up as any character from their favourite book. Please don’t feel the need to go out and buy an outfit for this – if you have a look on the World Book Day website, there are lots of ideas for creative costumes that make use of what you may already have at home.

Nursery will celebrate World Book Day on Monday 27th February.

Nurseries, schools and libraries across the UK celebrate World Book Day with a huge range of events and activities. Your child will also receive a £1 book token – sponsored by National Book Tokens. You can join us in building your child’s enthusiasm for books well beyond World Book Day by reading together regularly and joining your local library if you are not yet members. For more information about World Book Day and ideas on sharing books at home, visit worldbookday.com. Children are never too young to start their journey with books, and the benefits of reading are enormous - so we hope, like us, you will use World Book Day to celebrate it with your child.

Parents who have more than one child at our school, will receive a separate email for each child. If you have not received an email by Friday 27th January, please contact the school office by phone (01724 867065) or email (admin.berkeleyprimary@northlincs.gov.uk) to ensure we have your current email address. • After School Clubs Spring Term 2023

    Tue 10 Jan 2023

We have been organising our extra curricular activities for this term. We are offering a variety of enrichment activities for the children, trying to cater for a range of interests and age groups. I am sure that you will join me in thanking our great team for giving up their own time to volunteer to run these clubs for our children. The list of clubs available this term are on the reverse of this letter.

If your child would like to join a club then please log on to your ParentPay account where the clubs available for this term will be listed for you to select. To make this process fair you MUST ONLY select ONE club for your child. If you select more than one your child will be cancelled from all clubs selected.

Booking opens from Wednesday 11th January at 4.00pm where you will then be able to view and book your child onto a club. As there are limited places at each club, places will be allocated on a first come first served basis. If a club is full then the ParentPay system will not let you book onto a club. If you have yet to use ParentPay and need your login details, then please call in at the school office.

All clubs will start from Monday 23rd January apart from the Y1/2 Indoor Football Club, which will start from Tuesday 31st January. All clubs will run until Friday 24th March. There will be no after school clubs on 6th & 8th February due to Parents Evening.

Gooch Judo will continue their sessions on a Wednesday in the Junior Hall. There is a £3 charge for this per week, £21.00 for the full term. Payment for the full term must be made via ParentPay at the point of booking. Please note, once payment is made, this is non-refundable so should your child be absent from school or no longer wants to go to the club, we are unable to refund this back.

Dance Showcase- This club is for invitees only and will be in preparation for a dance event at The Baths Hall, places will be allocated after an audition.

Once a child has signed up for a session, we do ask that children stay committed to their activity for a term and attend each week.  If for any reason they are not able to attend, please can you ensure that the activity leader is made aware.

As always, Infant children will need to be collected at the end of their after school activity. We recommend that Junior children are also picked up from their activity, but this is parental choice. Please indicate whether your Junior child will be collected or allowed to walk home on the ParentPay system when booking onto a club. Please ensure you are punctual when collecting your child at the end of the club.  Should you be late on more than one occasion then your child will unfortunately not be able to attend the club.

    Best wishes

  • Merry Christmas to all

Fri 16 Dec 2022 Anna Cvijetic

    Dear Berkeley Parents and Carers,

Well - in a flash, another term is over!  Many thanks for all your support for our school - the children have had an amazing term working very hard.  This term has felt much more 'back to normal' after Covid.

It has been particularly wonderful being able to properly celebrate Christmas in school.  All 5 concerts were just wonderful, well done to all the children who took part - they are always the highlight of our Christmas.

We would like to wish you all a restful holiday period with the chance to restore batteries and spend time doing the things you enjoy and seeing the people you love.

With all best wishes for a very happy Christmas and New Year.

Anna Cvijetic and Wendy Howlett xxx

  • Spring term Inspire afternoons

Fri 16 Dec 2022 Anna Cvijetic

Dear Year 1 to 6 Parents and Carers,

We are delighted with the feedback from our Inspire afternoons.  The feedback shows that you have enjoyed them and feel like you know more about how we teach and our curriculum - brilliant!

We have planned the dates for the Spring term, see the attachment and below for the dates for your children's classes.  The sessions will take place in the infant school hall (Y1,2 and 5) and junior school hall (Y3,4 and 6).

If you are not available to join your child, a grandparent, aunt, close family friend, etc, could attend.  It would be great if every child had an adult with them.  To enable us to ensure children are safeguarded, all children will be closely supervised by the staff and the adults will only be allowed in the hall and to use the toilets. If you are not available to join your child, a grandparent, aunt, close family friend, etc, could attend.  It would be great if every child had an adult with them.  To enable us to ensure children are safeguarded, all children will be closely supervised by the staff and the adults will only be allowed in the hall and to use the toilets.

The afternoons will begin at 1.40pm, finishing about 3.00pm to give enough time for the teacher to take the children back to class and round off the day for 3.15pm (children cannot be taken home early at 3.00pm).  It is essential the adults arrive by 1.40pm otherwise it will be very disruptive to the lesson.

When it is your child’s Inspire Afternoon please go to the main entrance of the infants (Y1,2,5) or juniors (Y3,4,6).

We hope you can join us.

    Best wishes
