  • Halloween D&T sewing competition!

    Fri 27 Sep 2024

After a D&T pupil survey we have learned that children in our school love to do sewing but do not often get an opportunity to practice sewing at home! So, to encourage “home sewing” we are happy to announce a Halloween sewing competition!

To enter the competition, you must:

    1. Design and make a Halloween face mask!
    2. Bring it to school by the 12th of October.

8 winners will be chosen and awarded VOUCHER PRIZES during the school assembly the following week. The masks will then be given back to their creators so you can wear them at Halloween! It’s a WIN – WIN!

Bring your Halloween mask in an envelope / plastic wallet with your name, year group and class name. Hand them in to the school office.

Below are some ideas for the masks but feel free to create new and exciting designs! (Make sure you use your sewing skills to make it!)

I am looking forward to seeing your creations!

    Mon 23 Sep 2024

Parent and Teacher Consultations have been organised for Nursery, Reception and Year 1 to Year 6 on Wednesday 9th and Thursday 10th October (3.30 – 6.30pm), apart from a few changes to Nursery:

    • Nursery will be on Wednesday 9th October only (3.30-6.30pm). Each appointment will be a 10-minute slot. Please note, the booking system will show 5-minute slots due to both Mrs Bennett and Mrs Waters leading these appointments.

We will be using the online booking system again for booking appointments. You will shortly receive an email inviting you to book an appointment with your child’s class teacher. Once you have received the email, please select the date and time you wish to book for. Only available time slots will be displayed. Once you have selected your time and confirmed your booking, you will receive an on-screen reminder of the booking followed by an email confirmation.

Please note, the system will only send an email to the person who is listed on our records as contact number one. Parents who have more than one child at our school, will receive a separate email for each child. If you have not received an email by Wednesday 25th September, please contact the school office by phone (01724 867065) or email (admin.berkeleyprimary@northlincs.gov.uk) to ensure we have your current email address. The online booking system will close on Monday 7th October at 6.00pm.

Parent’s Evening is an opportunity for you to have a look at your child’s work and speak to your child’s class teacher about progress and targets.  I will also be available during the evening if you would like to speak to me.  We expect 100% attendance and need to see all parents.  There will be no after school clubs on Wednesday 9th and Thursday 10th October.

Meetings will be held in classrooms, there will be a waiting area in each school hall and you will be able to look at your child’s work.  Please could all visitors use the main entrance for the infants and juniors and come to the appropriate building for each appointment. Nursery and Reception meetings will be held in the main infant building.

We look forward to seeing you here at the school, having an opportunity to share some of the lovely work the children have been doing and discuss their progress and attitude to learning.

  • After School Clubs Autumn Term 2024

    Tue 10 Sep 2024

We have been organising our extra curricular activities for this term. We are offering a variety of enrichment activities for the children, trying to cater for a range of interests and age groups. I am sure that you will join me in thanking our great team for giving up their own time to volunteer to run these clubs for our children. The list of clubs available this term are on the reverse of this letter.

If your child would like to join a club then please log on to your ParentPay account where the clubs available for this term will be listed for you to select. To make this process fair you MUST ONLY select ONE club for your child. If you select more than one your child will be cancelled from all clubs selected.

Booking opens from Wednesday 11th September at 4.00pm where you will then be able to view and book your child onto a club. As there are limited places at each club, places will be allocated on a first come first served basis. If a club is full then the ParentPay system will not let you book onto a club. If you have yet to use ParentPay and need your login details, then please call in at the school office.

All clubs will start from Monday 23rd September and will run until Friday 22nd November. Please note, there will be no clubs running on Wednesday 9th & Thursday 10th October due to Parent’s Evening.

Gooch Judo will continue their sessions on Thursdays in the Junior Hall. There is a £3 charge for this per week. There will also be a charge for some of the other clubs that support staff run, as we need to cover the cost of their extra working hours. Please see the reverse of the letter for the cost per term for each club. Payment for the full term must be made via ParentPay at the point of booking. Please note, once payment is made, this is non-refundable so should your child be absent from school or no longer wants to go to the club, we are unable to refund this back.

Once a child has signed up for a session, we do ask that children stay committed to their activity for a term and attend each week.  If for any reason they are not able to attend, please can you ensure the school office is made aware.

As always, Infant children will need to be collected at the end of their after school activity. We recommend that Junior children are also picked up from their activity, but this is parental choice. Please indicate whether your Junior child will be collected or allowed to walk home on the ParentPay system when booking onto a club. Please ensure you are punctual when collecting your child at the end of the club.  Should you be late on more than one occasion then your child will unfortunately not be able to attend the club.

  • A great start back

Fri 06 Sep 2024 Anna Cvijetic

    Dear Berkeley Primary School Community,

I hope that you all enjoyed a wonderful summer break. As we embark on a new academic year, I'm delighted to welcome our new children and parents to our school and share some updates about our return to school and the exciting developments that have taken place.

First and foremost, I'd like to extend my gratitude to our dedicated cleaners and caretaker. Their efforts have ensured that our school premises are ready to welcome back our pupils and staff. Their hard work has set a positive tone for the new term, creating a clean and inviting environment for learning.

It's been truly heartening to see both staff and pupils return to school with renewed energy and enthusiasm. The fresh faces and eager attitudes have created a vibrant atmosphere throughout the school, setting the stage for an exciting year of growth and discovery.

I'm pleased to report that our pupils have settled in remarkably well. The transition back to school can sometimes be challenging, but our pupils have shown great resilience and adaptability. It's been a joy to witness their smooth integration into the school routine.

We've implemented some new behaviour routines during playtime and lunchtimes, which I'm happy to say have been a resounding success. By staggering break times, we've reduced the number of pupils outside at any given time. This change has led to a calmer playground environment, fewer accidents, and a more enjoyable experience for everyone. It's been a real pleasure to observe the positive impact of these changes firsthand.

To celebrate the fantastic start to the term, we've awarded Great Start certificates to some of our pupils. I know our teachers found it incredibly difficult to choose recipients, as so many children have shown tremendous progress. It's particularly heartwarming to see pupils who were initially nervous now arriving at school with beaming smiles.

Looking ahead, we have an exciting year planned, filled with engaging learning opportunities for our pupils. I encourage you to visit our school website, where each class has its own 'Class Page'. On the website you'll find information about what your child will be learning this term.  We are busy setting the key dates for the year and will let you know when these have been added to the website calendar, including when Inspire afternoons are.

As we move forward into this new academic year, I'm filled with optimism and excitement for what lies ahead. The positive start we've had is a testament to the wonderful community we have here at Berkeley Primary School. Thank you for your continued support, and here's to a great year ahead!

  • Scunthorpe Cooperative Junior Choir - looking for new singers

Thu 05 Sep 2024 Anna Cvijetic

    Dear Parents and Carers,

I spotted on Social media last night that SCJC are looking for new singers and have Free Open Rehearsals on 6th and 13th September 2024 - see the attached image for timings and location.

I know we have lots of talented singers and performers that would really like to join one of the country's leading youth choirs.  I hope some of you organise for your child / children to go along.  Good luck and let us know how it goes.

  • End of Year Newsletter July 2024

Tue 16 Jul 2024 Anna Cvijetic

    Dear Berkeley Primary School Community,

As we approach the end of another successful academic year, I am delighted to share with you some of the exciting developments and achievements that have taken place at our school. It has been a year filled with growth, accomplishments, success, and memorable moments, and I am incredibly proud of our children, staff, and the entire school community.

School Sport Lifetime Achievement Award - Simon Leek

Firstly, I am thrilled to announce that our very own Simon Leek was awarded the School Sport Lifetime Achievement Award at the Get Ahead Partnership Sports awards at the beginning of July. This prestigious recognition is a testament to Simon's dedication and outstanding contributions to school sports over the years.  We are incredibly proud of his accomplishment and grateful for his contributions to our school community.

Year 6 end of year Statutory Assessment Test (SATs) results

I am also pleased to share some excellent news regarding our Year 6 students' performance in their recent SATs. The results, which we received last week, demonstrate the hard work and dedication of both our students and staff. I am delighted to report that we are either at or above the national average in all areas. What's particularly noteworthy is that an impressive 34% of our Year 6 children achieved greater depth in reading. This means that a third of our students excelled in this crucial area, which is a clear indication that our Book Club initiative is yielding fantastic results. This achievement not only reflects the students' capabilities but also highlights the effectiveness of our teaching methods and the support provided by our staff and parents.

    The Reading Pledge Silver Award

I am delighted to share some exciting news with you all. Our school has just been awarded 'The Reading Pledge Silver Award' by Witham St Hughs English Hub for successfully completing the Silver Criteria for Reading for Pleasure. This achievement builds upon the bronze award we received last year and sets us on course for the Gold award next year.  This accomplishment is a testament to the dedication and hard work of our entire staff, particularly Amy Marsh and the 'Reading Change Team'. Their commitment to fostering a love of reading among our students is truly commendable.  We look forward to continuing our journey in promoting reading for pleasure throughout the school.

    Parent Survey

I would like to extend my gratitude to all the parents who took the time to complete our recent parent survey. We received responses from 245 families, and the results were overwhelmingly positive. It's encouraging to see that the vast majority of parents believe we are doing a great job. However, we always strive for continuous improvement, and we have taken note of the areas where we can enhance our performance. We will be focusing on improving communication regarding your child's progress, addressing behaviour concerns, and providing more information about what your child is learning. We are particularly pleased that 92% of parents would recommend our school to others. This vote of confidence means a great deal to us and motivates us to continue striving for excellence.  For those interested in viewing the detailed results, please refer to the attached document.

    Ofsted

Last week, we welcomed Ofsted inspectors to our school. While we cannot disclose the outcome just yet, we anticipate being able to share the results with you in September once the report has been finalised. I would like to express my sincere appreciation to all the parents who reached out to wish us well and provided positive feedback about our school to the inspectors. Your support means a great deal to us, and we are grateful for your ongoing trust and partnership.

    Summer works

As we look ahead to the summer break, I'm pleased to inform you that we will be having a quieter summer in terms of school maintenance this year. For the first time in several years, we don't have any major works planned. However, our dedicated team of cleaners and caretakers will be working diligently to ensure that the school is in pristine condition when we welcome the children back on Tuesday, 3rd September 2024.

    Year 6 Leavers

To our departing Year 6 students, we wish you the very best of luck as you embark on your journey to secondary school. You have been an integral part of our school community, and we are confident that you are well-prepared for the exciting challenges that lie ahead. We will miss you and hope that you'll carry fond memories of your time at Berkeley Primary School with you.

    And finally...

As we reflect on the past year and look forward to the next, I am filled with optimism and excitement for what lies ahead - feeling very lucky to be in a job I love with an amazing team supporting the work we do. The achievements we've celebrated, the challenges we've overcome, and the improvements we continue to make all contribute to the vibrant and nurturing learning environment we strive to maintain at Berkeley Primary School.  Your engagement and partnership play a crucial role in our children's success and the overall positive atmosphere of our school community.

I would like to wish all of our children, families, and staff a wonderful summer break. I hope you have the opportunity to spend quality time with family and friends, create lasting memories, and embark on exciting adventures. We look forward to hearing about all the interesting experiences our children will have to share when they return in September.

Thank you for your continued support and for being an essential part of our school community. Have a safe and enjoyable summer break, and we look forward to welcoming you back for another exciting year of learning and growth.
