Dear Reception to Year 6 Parents and Carers,
We are delighted to be able to invite all parents to an ‘Open Classroom’ event here at school on Wednesday 8th October from 3.15pm, finishing at 4.20pm. We really hope that parents are able to join us.
You will be able to have a look at their books and the lovely work they have been doing, look around their classroom and meet the teacher. If you would like a private, lengthier conversation, please ask to book a meeting.
Please collect your child as normal at 3.15pm and then make your way to their classroom. Infant parents, please access your child’s classroom through the door the children normally enter/exit from. Junior parents, please make your way through the gates your children enter/exit from and access your child’s classroom through the door the children normally enter/exit from. If you have several children, please go to each class, ensuring you have time to do them all before 4.20pm.
For your diary, Parent Consultations will be Wednesday 11th and Thursday 12th February 2026.
We look forward to seeing you here at school.
We have been organising our extra curricular activities for this term. We are offering a variety of enrichment activities for the children, trying to cater for a range of interests and age groups. I am sure that you will join me in thanking our great team for giving up their own time to volunteer to run these clubs for our children. The list of clubs available this term are on the reverse of this letter.
If your child would like to join a club then please log on to your ParentPay account where the clubs available for this term will be listed for you to select. To make this process fair you MUST ONLY select ONE club for your child. If you select more than one your child will be cancelled from all clubs selected.
Booking opens from Monday 8th September at 4.00pm where you will then be able to view and book your child onto a club. As there are limited places at each club, places will be allocated on a first come first served basis. If a club is full then the ParentPay system will not let you book onto a club. If you have yet to use ParentPay and need your login details, then please call in at the school office.
Clubs will start from Monday 22nd September and will run until Friday 28th November. If your child is attending an ‘invitees only’ club then please refer to your letter for exact running dates for that club.
Gooch Judo will continue their sessions on Thursdays in the Junior Hall. There is a £3 charge for this per week.
There will also be a charge for some of the other clubs that require resources or clubs that support staff run, as we need to cover the cost of their extra working hours. Please see the reverse of the letter for the cost per term for each club. Payment for the full term must be made via ParentPay at the point of booking. Please note, once payment is made, this is non-refundable so should your child be absent from school or no longer wants to go to the club, we are unable to refund this back.
Once a child has signed up for a session, we do ask that children stay committed to their activity for a term and attend each week. If for any reason they are not able to attend, please can you ensure the school office is made aware.
As always, Infant children will need to be collected at the end of their after school activity. We recommend that Junior children are also picked up from their activity, but this is parental choice. Please indicate whether your Junior child will be collected or allowed to walk home on the ParentPay system when booking onto a club. Please ensure you are punctual when collecting your child at the end of the club. Should you be late on more than one occasion then your child will unfortunately not be able to attend the club.

We have restructured the current Reception children before they move in to their new year group, this is the norm for our school. If you have not received an email letting you know this by 3.15pm, please come and ask at the school office.

TRANSITION
As always, we plan carefully for a smooth transition (children moving from one class to another through the school). We plan to make sure children adapt to their new environment and teachers, building the children’s confidence and trying to reduce any anxieties they have.
We have planned two sessions for the children to spend some time with their new teacher in their new classroom. The first session is 9.30-11.30am on Thursday 19th June 2025 and the second is 9.15am-1.15pm on Wednesday 25th June 2025, when the Y2 children will have their lunch in the juniors.
Staffing Update
I am sad to inform you that Tom Fell (teacher), Sylwia Wislowska (TA) and Yanina Mereshchak (TA) will be leaving Berkeley Primary School at the end of the academic year. They have all been invaluable members of our teaching staff for several years, and their dedication to our children has been truly commendable. We will deeply miss their presence and contributions to our school community.
Tom will be starting at a new school in September. Sylwia is taking the exciting leap to complete her teacher qualification, joining the North Lincolnshire SCITT programme in September. Yanina has made the decision to return to the Ukraine, rejoining her family. We wish them all well in their future.
If you have any queries regarding any of the above, please do not hesitate to contact your child’s class teacher.
We are excited to let you know that the whole of Key Stage 2 shall be taking part in a ‘Booknic’ – a Reading Picnic!
This will be a great opportunity for children and their families to read, relax, eat and discuss books in order to build reading memories together.
Children will be asked to bring in their favourite books, a blanket and a snack to eat outside. Parents and carers are also invited to bring in books and snacks to read alongside or with their children.
This year’s year 3-6 Booknic shall be held on Monday 23rd June and we are inviting parents and carers in from 2:30pm until 3:00pm. The gate will be open from 2:30 (and close again at 2:40) for family and carers to enter the school grounds, and will then re-open at 3:05 ready for home time. Children will be taken back in to their classrooms at 3pm to prepare for home time.
Teachers have also created a menu of book recommendations to inspire you with what you may want to read at home.
If you are able to attend, we look forward to reading and relaxing with you and hopefully the sun will be shining to make it a lovely afternoon.

Reading for Pleasure Lead.
We are planning a fun week of activities to celebrate Refugee Week (w/c 16th June), including exploring 'Playtime Around the World' and 'Bread Around the World.'
As part of our celebrations, we will be holding a Non-Uniform Day on Friday 20th June. We invite children to dress in the colours of a flag of their choice. This might be the flag of the UK or another country that is special to them. (For Nursery children this will be Wednesday 18th June.)
We are raising money for North Lincolnshire Sanctuary Group - a group of volunteers who support newly arrived families in our area. They offer friendship and practical help, providing everything from essential household goods to cookery classes.
A suggested donation of £1.00 would be gratefully received, which will be sent to the North Lincs Sanctuary Group.
This year, our picnic won't take place during Refugee Week - this will be our 'Booknic' for years 3-6 on Monday 23rd June. However, during Refugee Week, children will learn about and taste bread from different countries. If any families would like to share a traditional bread recipe, we would love to receive them.
Best wishes
Mrs Angie Humphrey (EAL lead) and Miss Faye Marshall (PSHE lead)

Thank you!
Dear Parents, Carers and wider family members,
I wanted to take a moment to thank you all for joining us for the VE Day celebration picnic yesterday. It was a wonderful opportunity for our whole school community to come together, celebrate, and remember those who fought for our freedoms.
Seeing everyone singing the National Anthem together was truly heartwarming. I hope this day inspires us to learn valuable lessons and strive for peace across the world in our lifetime.
A special thanks to those parents who took the time to send their messages of appreciation. Your support means so much to us.
Looking forward to more joyful gatherings in the future!
